I-CLAIM research is carried out in six countries: Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, and the UK. The selection of these countries enables us to capture variation in terms of estimated size and profile of the irregular migrant population, welfare regimes, labour regimes and forms of capitalism; degree of informality in the economy; geographical distribution, with Southern, Eastern, Nordic, and Western European countries represented. We consider the interplay between different national, sub-national and supra-national actors and processes, with particular attention to the EU level.
The focus is placed on specific sectors of the labour market that are known for relying on irregular and precarious migrant workers, in particular: agri-food, which includes agriculture, farming, and food processing; care, cleaning, and domestic work; and logistics and delivery.
